This is the best place for bird watchers to view some of the best varieties of aquatic birds from a total of around one hundred eighty bird species recorded at the island. Best time to visit this lake is during the winters, when the migratory birds start flocking at the shores of this lake. Beautiful birds visiting areas surrounding the lake are Eurasian Spoonbills, Painted Storks, Oriental Darters and Black-crowned Night Herons.

It is the third most important lake in Mysore. Considering its proximity to the city, it is a more preferred tourist spot. This fresh water lake attracts grey herons, pelicans and many other aquatic birds.
